Be Like A Bird -The Dolphin’s are beginning to fly again!
“Be Like a Bird who, pausing in her flight, finds a branch too slight that it gives way beneath her, but sings, sings, knowing she has wings.” Victor Hugo

These words helped the Dolphin Arts Project to begin the process of meeting together again. Though creative activity continued throughout successive lockdowns, the Dolphins have not met as a group since early March 2020. Inspired by the strength of birds weathering storms and still singing, the group have begun to work together in small groups, making birds as a symbol of resilience, freedom and flocking – an activity that encouraged many in the community to get involved too and contribute their own birds to the flock.
The result is a beautiful display of textile and paper birds in the An Talla Solais gallery windows, available until 8th August. In addition, look out for dozens of painted birds around the village during the last week of July – please take photographs and share them! These are very special birds, carrying a very important symbol of hope in these uncertain times.

Ullapool Fire & Light are looking for new helpers to join the ‘team’. This would let some of us that have been involved for many, many years step down. We’d love to find a couple of people or a group, who could take over the Treasurer’s position and someone who could organise the storage, equipment and ordering.  These are not hugely time-consuming roles and a lot of assistance will be given.

We’re lucky that we have various groups looking after the Winter Lights around the village who work like a well-oiled machines, and of course new ideas and ways of working are always welcomed.  Both of the events that we organise – the Community Bonfire & Fireworks and the Winter lights, are for the enjoyment of the community, and it’s both satisfying and a lot of fun to be part of this.
