A PLEA FOR YOUR HELP!
St Martin’s Church Ullapool
Over the past four years the church roof at St Martin’s in Ullapool has gradually deteriorated. We have been warned it will not last another winter due to water damage.
We are only a small Congregation of no more than twenty-five people and require £36,000 to carry out the repairs. Over the last eighteen months, within our church, we have managed to raise £3,300 even during the constrictions of Covid but we need help.
We are appealing for donations to keep the only Catholic church on the north west coast of Scotland open. We would not like to see our church close.

SEAWEED FESTIVAL – EXTRA EVENT
At 8 pm on the 11th of September at the Ferry Terminal, PROFESSOR JASON HALL SPENCER from Plymouth University will be giving a talk about the pink seaweed maerl and the maerl beds of Wester Ross.
Professor Jason Hall Spencer is the leading expert on maerl. He will give a half-hour talk about why this ancient habitat is so precious and Scotland’s example of the Great Barrier Reef followed by a Q&A.
Wester Ross Marine Protected Area is the largest Maerl MPA in Scotland and Wester Ross as a whole is famous for mearl as it has the lion’s share of this habitat in Scotland. Jason will also show a short film made locally about maerl, produced from surveys by a coalition of citizen science survey groups which has recently formed The Blue Hope Alliance – a citizen science survey network in the north west. It will be a fascinating talk about why the area is of such great scientific interest.
