A new telephone hotline has been launched – this is a new tool in the fight against fraud.
A simple, memorable number -159 – will connect customers directly and securely with their bank if they fear they are being scammed.

The 159 has a clear message: If you are contacted by someone who claims to be your bank or encourages you to transfer money. STOP, HANG UP and call 159 to check.
159 will never call you. If you receive a call that looks like its from 159 DO NOT ANSWER IT.

New Childcare needs survey
Opens 15th of October
Closes 1st November

This new survey of local childcare needs will go live on Friday the 15th of October. If you are planning a family or already have children, need childcare or not, live locally or travel here for work, then your voice could help shape the future of childcare provision in Ullapool. The survey will close on the 1st of November.
The survey will be available online, via social media and newsletters, with physical copies available.
This is a collaborative project between the Care and Learning Alliance, the Highland Council and Kinder Croft CIC.

ENA CAMPBELL, RHUE

Mrs. Ena Campbell was a former Chair of the Community Council in Lochbroom and served for many years. Born in 1931 in Strath Kanaird she achieved the grand old age of 90 in January this year.

Ena was the third daughter of Roderick and Catherine MacLeod, being preceded by her sisters Mary and Catherine and followed by three brothers William, Kenneth and Ruaridh. Sadly Kenneth is now the only surviving member of the family.

Ena’s last few years were spent in the Ballifeary Home for the Elderly in Inverness where she passed away peacefully on the evening of 30th September with the funeral held in Ullapool on 7th October.

Ena was an outstanding chair of the Community Council and many projects in the area benefited from her wise advice. Her crofting roots in Strath Kanaird meant that she was the ideal person to be Clerk to the Common Grazings of Morefield, Rhue and Ardmair where she assisted with several knotty problems.

Ena’s local involvement was honoured by Her Majesty conferring the Membership of the British Empire Medal, as well as being acclaimed for her work in Crofting circles. Having married a man from Harris she had a happy and enjoyable life in Rhue and they had two sons and a daughter with her life being completed when she became a grandmother.

Sadly Ena lost her husband Alex in 1993 and in her funeral on Thursday 7 October she was laid beside him in Morefield cemetery, a few yards away from her sibling sisters who predeceased her.
