High Life Highland signs up to “Highland Weekend of Action for Ukraine”
The Chair and Chief Executive of High Life Highland, the Highland’s largest Charity have come to wholeheartedly support The Highland Council’s ‘Highland Weekend of Action for Ukraine’. Announcing the charity’s participation, Chair of the Charity Ian Ross said, “We have all looked on in astonishment and horror as the events in Ukraine have unfolded over the last number of days and can only imagine what the Ukranian people are going through. “We have become aware that financial aid to the people is becoming increasingly vital, therefore High Life Highland welcomes the initiative announced by The Highland Council to have a weekend of fundraising action across Highland to support Ukraine. “Despite the very sad circumstances in which I do this, I am pleased to announce that all HLH sites will participate in the ‘Highland Weekend of Action for Ukraine’ and will donate all takings from across our sites on 2nd and 3rd April to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for Ukraine, likely to be around £10,000. We will also be inviting customers to make cash donations during their visits over the weekend to further add to HLH’s contribution.”

High Life Highland will be donating its takings from all its locations including cafés, leisure centres, libraries, museums, archive centres. So any customers who visit a High Life Highland location over Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April will know that whilst taking part in their own activities or buying a cake and a coffee, they will be contributing to helping the people of Ukraine.

PANTOMIME MEMORIES 160 pairs of hands either starred, crewed or helped (oh no they didn’t..!) in Ullapool’s five successful and entertaining ‘80s village hall pantomimes.

Were you there? In that case you should come along to the Pantomime Memories event … for old times’ sake.

If you weren’t there you MUST come along, to learn about and appreciate a bit of local history. It’ll be fun identifying the ‘players’, whether stars or not, and seeing some of the props – including some original makeup … yeuk. Come and see a picture of you, (or your Mum/Dad/big sister), get a copy of the programmes/cast lists, watch a video, examine props and costumes – all over a cup of tea and biscuits!

An Talla Solais gets boost to help create a more connected and resilient community

thanks to National Lottery and IKEA funding

 An Talla Solais based in Ullapool is celebrating after being awarded £3420 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and IKEA UK, as part of the £1.5million pilot programme, Places Called Home. The pilot programme from the largest funder of community activity and world’s largest home furnishing retailer, is supporting more than 330 local communities across the UK with grants of up to £5,000 to build back better and differently as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Places Called Home programme builds on the energy and creativity of communities coming together during the crisis to support each other and aims to inspire them to take action around healthy and sustainable living, while learning from each other and building meaningful connections. An Talla Solais will use their funding to facilitate free workshops for local residents to connect with their local landscape in new ways alongside meeting new people, learning photography skills and elements of mindfulness through connection with nature.

The workshops begin in April and are open to all, adults and children above the age of 12. We are happy to help arrange transport and we will ensure that any necessary adaptations are made to ensure that we can include everyone. Just email me at morven@antallasolais.org to book!
