SUCCESS…!!!
On 26/04/22 councillors from the North Planning Committee, Highland Council refused
unanimously the proposed development (21/04108/FUL) submitted by Mr. Young for Braes,
Ullapool. This has been a big win for all of us.
Special thanks to Ian Cockburn for asking the right questions at the committee meeting and the
councillors for putting the community’s safety and concerns first. Many thanks to everyone who
wrote an objection, signed the petition or worked tirelessly in the background to make sure our
voices have been heard. Onwards and upwards…

BBC SCOTLAND MENTAL HEALTH APPEAL
BBC Scotland journalist Chelsea Rocks is researching issues regarding access to mental health services in rural areas. In 2016, she helped facilitate workshops in Ullapool High School, involving students from the school and Gairloch, and has since been interested in barriers to mental health support in the North West. She is looking to
speak with young people and parents of young people who have been affected by these issues, who would be willing to speak about their experience.
All secondary school pupils can participate, though those younger than 16 would require permissions from their parent or guardian.
You can contact Chelsea on email: chelsea.rocks@bbc.co.uk  or during weekdays 9am-5pm on 07703430637.

Dear Editors & readers, me again!
Hello Discerning Ullapudlians, Paul (& Jill) more “look on the brighter side” observations on contemporary life from me if I may?
Another brief one this week as my “Ode” appears elsewhere in this issue & I want to leave room enough for all the other stuff UN provides so well.
Thanks – Jill we are almost fully fit again now & still comparing “symptoms we had/avoided.”  I wear my Scoraig hat frequently & think of you when I do (not in an “odd way” or anything “funny!”)
Cloud shapes seen this week: From now on I will miss out the frequent/boring bra, Haar & pyramid ones & just note rarities. Among much cotton wool dross was famed dog “Nipper” of the well-known HMV logo!
Carry on doing the good deeds, peace in Ukraine, stay safe, don’t fall off & please notice when you are recipients of the same & smile…
Bide Cheerful noo
Yours Sincerely WoolyPaul (again)

POEM
Covid-19
(an ode to it…with nothing owed to it!)
Now Wuhan’s on the map, we wish it wasn’t
The conjoined twins of infamy & “In for me!”
Another nasty virus that tired & tried us
A REALLY BAD vision…not what you’d expect
For 2020!
Soon I couldn’t help but “until further notice”
Signs stuck on many premises dark windows
Always busy to beyond empty…too silent
Confidence or doubt…decision’s “armour?”
Foulest (not “fowl”) play…natural or otherwise
Over two masked years…isolation sanitised
Claps for carers…headline horoscope’s hope?
“Vaccine safe” within an angels rusted cage.

Many thousand souls…big peaks on graphs
The ONLY things “flattened” by the vaccines.
Some made them a “faked” Moon landing
Like JFK’s grassy knoll informed eyes rolled!
(Lateral Flow two lines on show “OH NO WOE!”)
Tired too long night, then too soon slowest sunrise
Too weak (2 week) energies didn’t let me lie or sit
CLAWING cough, a metal dustbin of broken glass
SO SORE ribs BEGGED silence…only then SLEEP!
We watched storm waves rebound off the pier’s end
& those incoming, clashing, interacting…interference
Stealing each other’s physics, growing bigger or flat
Their unseen deep energy far from gone…just changed
So fuel, inflation (again) Ukraine & Boris (‘s) “fine”
With us safe in our very definition of a community
Much charming expertise & smiling expert ease
Offered almost seamless & as unique as each need

We will be tired again, tried too…but READY!
