LARGE PRINT ULLAPOOL NEWS

Some of you may be aware that for the first few months of this year we produced an easier-to-read version of the Ullapool News for those who found the regular size print difficult to read.  This was thanks to a grant from Ullapool Community Trust which ran out at the end of May meaning the A3 size copies came to an end.

Since explaining this in the Ullapool News, we are delighted to say that further funding has been secured!  We plan to re-start publication of the easier-to-read version on Friday 19 August, ie next week.  Schools re-open that week and the office at Ullapool High School has kindly agreed to continue to enlarge the papers there.

If you, or someone you know, is having problems reading the print in the regular sized Ullapool News, this may help!

Thank you to all the people who recycle their blister packs at the iCentre/Tourist Information Centre.  We have managed to get loads of huge bagsful of these to Inverness with more going over the next two weeks.  For the next couple of months (at least!) people can drop them off 7 days a week between 9:00 – 17:00, with an occasional closure for lunch if we are a bit short staffed.

In defence of Wasps

(While not deserving hugs, they

help us not live knee deep in bugs)

 

Diet varied & creepy crawly rich!

Flies, caterpilars…jam sandwich?

Their chewed wood nests of paper

Outwith cause so many a caper!

They inhabit all lands, near & far

Every continent, except Antarctica!

 

The gender specific arsenal thing

Only girls get the (ex-egg tube) sting!

7000 thousand species here, in the UK

30,000 worldwide…OOH I SAY!

We just wail, panic, moan, &  flap

 Cruel “home made jam jar water trap!”

 

Their Queens can’t ever “Jubilee”

One year the most they’ll ever see!

Workers too, soon become “toast”

 Three overworked weeks at the most!

Can“dish out” far more than one sting

Nobbling countless “wee bug” things!

 

Wasp Intelligent deduction’s no illusion

Using “logic” to draw “conclusions!”

An arms race…Hawk wasps versus prey

In stay up dusk, they nightowl prey!

Zombified spiders mere larvae food

Abducted arachnids feed their brood!

 

In vivid hues, all  far from mellow

Nae just scary black & yellow

Reds, blues, orangey...even green

Many “wasp high vis jackets” seen

On nature’s good housekeeping jobs

Remember that as your next sting
