Bank Holiday designated on Monday 19 September 2022

for the state funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

 

CLOSURES ON MONDAY 19 SEPTEMBER

The Highland Council and Highlife Highland have confirmed that, as a mark of respect, we will observe the State Funeral of her Majesty The Queen on Monday 19 September 2022.

All schools, Council offices, service points and leisure facilities will be closed to the public.  Emergency out of hours services will continue.  Waste collection will continue on that day, although the actual collection time may vary.  Registration, burials and cremations will be provided as required.  

All out of hour arrangements in place for the weekend prior to the funeral will continue until the start of normal working hours on Tuesday 20 September.

 

Lochbroom Hardware, Captain’s Cabin and Ullapool Bookshop will be closed all day on Monday 19  Sept.  Open again on Tuesday 20 as normal.

ULLAPOOL MUSEUM will be closed on Monday 19 Sept.

 PARLETT’S: SHOP open 8—10am for papers.

No Post Office or Royal Mail and the bakery is also closed.

JOJO will open 8 – 10.30am on Monday 19 Sept.

Ceol Na Mara will be closed Monday 19 Sept. all day

Tesco Store will be closed Monday 19 all day – Re-opens 8am Tuesday. 

Ullapool Library,  Swimming Pool  & Leisure Centre will be closed on Monday 19 Sept.

PARLETTS

It is with much sadness that we have decided to close the business down at the end of November 2022.

The increase in costs and the lack of any serious interest in taking it on has left us with no other option.

It has been a very hard decision to make but it is the only option available, we have plans for the space to be something else so it’s not another empty shop.

We would like to thank all our customers for the support we have had over the years.

Parlett’s will be much missed.  Certainly the end of an era, especially for those of us who remember it back to the days of “Mr and Mrs P”, Allister’s parents.

Cath’s Skydive

I am very sorry to have to tell you that because of a mini stroke which I suffered in 2018, I am medically unable to complete my planned dive.  I was absolutely horrified when I was told, but there’s nothing that can be done about it.  I will arrange a zip wire dive as soon as possible. The upside of this is that another grandchild will take my place on the dive.

I would like to thank all the people who have so generously donated to the Brain Tumour Charity, both by justgiving and in person – I raised the sum of £1130 which will be of some benefit to the charity.  Once again, can I say how disappointed I am, but I hope the zipwire trip will make up for the missing skydive in a small way.

Update on Loch Broom native oyster project.

Since moving into their floating trial nursery in Loch Broom in March this year, our oyster ‘spat’ (babies) have been growing very well, so we have put in for planning for two nursery sites to enable us to grow on and release a planned 100’000 oysters a year.

The aim is for them to form self-sustaining beds which are excellent habitat for other species, filter sea water of impurities, stabilise sediments and protect coasts.

We have been surveying within the loch for signs of extant populations and have found a lot of dead shell, but only two large, live, and lonely native oysters so far.
