The nation mourned the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at her State Funeral on Monday 19 September 2022.

As our longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth’s long reign was marked by a strong sense of duty and her determination to dedicate her life to her people. She became for many the one constant point in a rapidly changing world as British influence declined, society changed beyond recognition and the role of the monarchy itself came into question.

On the occasion of her Silver Jubilee, she recalled the pledge she had made on a visit to South Africa 30 years before: “When I was 21, I pledged my life to the service of our people and I asked for God’s help to make good that vow. Although that vow was made in my salad days, when I was green in judgement, I do not regret, or retract, one word of it.” There is no doubt she fulfilled this to the utmost during her long reign.

Queen Elizabeth had a great fondness for Scotland, and Balmoral in particular, including our own area with family holidays, visits both private and public.
