ROSS Donald (ULLAPOOL)

Suddenly, but peacefully at home, on Friday 18^th November 2022, Donald Sutherland Ross (69), (Grocer), beloved husband of Kathleen (Kathy) nee Gunn; loving and loved father of Steven and Alan; fond grandfather of Donald and Lenox; dear brother of Alison and Linda and friend to many.

The Funeral Service will be held at 12.00pm on Friday 2^nd December 2022 at the Church of Scotland, Mill Street, Ullapool, Ross-shire, followed by interment at Morefield Cemetery.   All friends and family respectfully invited.  Family flowers only please. Donations to Diabetes.co.uk and Asthma.co.uk may be made at the church.

The family wish to express their immense gratitude for the incredible support they have received from so many people.  Your visits, calls, gifts, cards, offers of help and kind words about Donald have been a great comfort to us.  Thank you all.

SCHILLING Tony, Braes, Ullapool

Tony died peacefully at Raigmore hospital on Wednesday 23rd November.   The funeral will be private.

However, next Spring a tree is to be planted at Dundonnell Gardens in his memory & all Tony’s friends are invited to attend that event. Date & details to be advised in the New Year.

£140,000 OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS A835 ROGIE TO TARVIE

 Works start Sunday 11^th December for three nights.

Full road closure between 8pm and 6am.

Amnesties will be in place.

Essential surfacing improvements are set to be carried out at the A835 Rogie to Tarvie, located north of Contin.

The £140,000 investment by Transport Scotland, which will see a 423m stretch of carriageway resurfaced, will ensure the A835 continues to operate safely for years to come.

Starting on Sunday 11^th December, the works will take place between 8pm and 6am for 3 nights.

Due to narrow carriageway widths, there will be a full A835 road closure to protect roadworkers and motorists.  As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A835, vehicles will be held at either side of the work site until they can be escorted through the area safely during amnesty periods (when work is suspended) at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am.

2023 Calendars and Diaries for Prisoners

It’s that time of year when some of us end up with more calendars and diaries than we need!

Once again, St Mary’s Church is asking for any spare 2023 calendars and diaries for the prison in Inverness for distribution among those serving sentences there.

Keeping track of passing time – as well as being able to look ahead to a prospective release date – is important for many of the men there, and the chaplains very much appreciate having these to give away. However, please note that we cannot donate any containing pictures of children.

Donations can be placed in the mailbox by the church door in Market Street or given to a member of the congregation to pass on to me.

INVERNESS HARBOUR:

Inverness Harbour Trust has marked the 175th anniversary of the port by commissioning a new book about its role in the development of the city and wider Highlands.

The book by local author Roy Pedersen charts the port’s history before and after the establishment of the trust that has managed it for almost two centuries.

The earliest known record of the harbour is in the writings of a Benedictine monk who wrote in 1249 of ship being built in Inverness for a French count to carry him to the Crusades.
