RE: MO DHACHAIDH
The meeting was opened at 19.30 and T Dawson (chairing) welcomed all to the meeting, which was arranged to discuss the closure of Mo Dhachaidh Care Home by the new owners (Parklands) which is scheduled for 23rd April 2023. Ron Taylor the owner of Mo Dhachaidh explained the difficulties that they have been face with including staffing and the increased overheads in the current financial climate. The various agencies represented this evening have all expressed their wish to try and look at all possible ways of dealing with this very difficult situation. The most immediate problem is to try and relocate all the current residents to suitable accommodation. Ron Taylor is at this moment working on this as a matter of urgency. The Ullapool Health Centre are tenants of the lower floor of the building and rent this from NHS Highland. NHS Highland currently have a rolling lease for the lower floor of the building which will continue as normal. It is the responsibility of NHS Highland to make available suitable accommodation for healthcare in the village. P Cremin told the meeting that the NHS bought and now operate the private Home Farm Care Home in Portree but this required emergency Covid related legislation in the Scottish Parliament so it does not apply to the present case. NHS Highland are aware of the need for the provision of primary care service in the area, this service will continue. It was also noted that it would be more difficult to reopen the Care Home after closure than if it were possible to keep it running in some form. T Dawson made the case that keeping care home beds open is cost effective because it releases expensive hospital beds, and the case that Ullapool serves a 100 mile stretch of the West coast. T Dawson will liaise with Gavin Sell and Pam Cremin of NHS Highland. T Dawson will put together a small group that includes the individuals from the different areas impacted by this closure to try and work together with the different agencies involve to keep the process active as time is short.
