Christmas lights switch on at the Creel Tree, West Shore Street, Ullapool
on Friday December 1st at 5.30pm.
Late night opening for some shops in the village PLUS a Winter Market in Ullapool Village Hall from 3pm – 8pm.
–no ferry but perhaps a dinghy, a torch & a hooter…!

Andries Du Plessis, Social Worker for Older Adults, NHS Highland
received the British Empire Medal (Honorary)
for his services to Older People inUllapool
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Ross and Cromarty, Andrew Townsend presented Andries with his BEM (Honorary) at a small ceremony in the Ceilidh Place earlier this week. National Honours are given to individuals who are exemplary and extraordinary in their achievements and who have committed themselves to service, striving to make life better for other people. When awarded to an individual in paid employment they must truly shine out above their peers.
Andries has been a social worker for 45 years, starting in the South African townships of Port Elizabeth. He was a pioneer ensuring good working relationships between Social Work and the NHS long before this became standard practice across Scotland. The respect he now has from our community, the doctors and hospitals staff reflect his dedication and abilities to improve the lives of so many of our older population. When asked what motivated him, Andries replied that he was trying to ensure his clients were dealt with in a way you would wished your loved ones to be cared for. He also acknowledge that he could not have provided this leave of service without the help and support of his wife, Marlene.

Harbour News for November
New festoon poles and lights have been installed along the promenade. The under-cope lighting has finally been completed by BEAR Scotland. With the ferry running on an amended timetable there will be no sounding of its whistle for the lights switch on. Alternatives are being arranged!
Ullapool Harbour has had a busy November with whitefish landings, and the shellfish sector with some migrant prawn trawlers at work in the Minches coming in to land and take ice. 35 vessels linked to aquaculture calling in for fuel and crew changes, also 2 inshore research vessels, the Ondine Julie and Roman Rebel plus the MCA tug Ievoli on her monthly visit.
3 New trustees have been appointed from 1 December and a new harbour assistant.
