ULLAPOOL POST OFFICE SERVICE SLASHED TO 4 HOURS PER WEEK

PLANS FOR TEMP MOBILE POST OFFICE FOR ULLAPOOL TO PROVIDE SERVICES
• Temp Mobile Post Office for Ullapool
Services to be provided by Postmaster for Dingwall
A Mobile Post Office service is being introduced for Ullapool whilst we look for a permanent solution.
The current branch is at Ullapool Village Hall, 4 Market Street, Ullapool, IV26 2XE, however, the Postmaster has resigned and this branch will close on Friday 29 March at 5pm.
However, we are pleased to inform you that the Postmaster from Dingwall Post Office is willing to offer services to the local community with the introduction of a Mobile Service while we continue to seek a permanent solution.
We are scheduled to restore Post Office services to Ullapool on Monday 8 April at 9.30am. It will operate every Monday from 9.30am – 1.30pm.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the branch. An alternative Post Office branch is:
Achiltibuie Post Office, Achiltibuie, Ullapool, IV26 2YG (open, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9am – 12.30pm.
A Mobile Post Office service is a tried and tested way of maintaining services to smaller communities.

This ‘temporary closure’ has been known about for a considerable period of time – 22 months !
Why the PO have not dealt with this problem in a timely manner before now is ridiculous!
We need a complete Post Office service in the village for locals and visitors.

High yields in flax trials looking to revive Scotland’s linen industry.
Scottish farmers have successfully grown new nature- friendly varieties of fibre flax with yields double the industry standard and no use of artificial fertilisers, in a bid to restore Scotland’s lost linen industry.
Flax was once grown widely to support a thriving linen industry across Scotland but declined in popularity, with 80% now grown in Europe.
With demand for biodegradable fabrics rising, the farms near Dundee, Edinburgh and Oban grew three flax varieties – Avian, Delta and Tango – in the Growing Flax for Regenerative Textiles field lab with Innovative Farmers. All crops were grown without artificial fertilisers.
The results of the trials show the potential to produce a sustainable source of linen, which could revive Scotland’s linen industry.

SEA SAVERS UPDATE
The Sea Savers were very lucky to get a tour of the tallship Christian Radich that was visiting Ullapool. A beautiful boat that visited here before and featured in the movie Windjammer and the TV series Onedin Line (bit before the kid’s time but got Noel excited…). She offers commercial trips around Norway in the summer and down to Portugal and Spain in the winter but also runs a program offering young people the chance to learn to sail and develop life skills that come with this.
Crew member Stine welcomed the kids aboard and showed them how the boat is operated and maintained as well as giving an insight into life as a sailor – even a hammock demonstration. This really was a treat and we are very grateful to the crew for this opportunity.
In other USS news: the pontoons have allowed us to keep going through the winter and some sunnier days have al- lowed us to do some all-access trips thanks to everybody that voted for us at the Tesco blue token scheme. We hope to offer more trips through the summer so get in touch if you or someone you know would like to be considered – we’re not just meaning people with mobility issues that normally restricts boat access, we’d like to try and give the opportunity to share the seas to anyone who might not normally get the chance by the usual commercial trips, etc. We had Bill the Bull out last month and had a great trip – with some good stories. The boat is currently out the water for servicing and some jobs but will hopefully be back in the sea soon. (thanks to the harbour team for helping with that).

From the moment visitors walk through the doors of the exhibition, they will be transported to Fotheringhay Castle, where the essence of Mary Stuart lingers in every corner.
