Thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent fundraising events for the Lorg na Còigich project. The weekend was a resounding success with over £20,000 raised. It is a huge sum for a small community and shows the strength of support for the project.
There was a wonderful evening of conversation between Sally Magnusson and Shona MacLean on the Saturday night followed on Sunday by the culmination of the exciting art auction.
Thank you to the local art community who generously donated almost 100 artworks, to the successful bidders, including those who were sadly unsuccessful but made the bidding hotly contested both on-line and in-person.
It would not have been possible without the army of volunteers who set up and dismantled the exhibition, our sponsors for the book event and the wonderful Coigach bakers, cooks and helpers who kept up a never-ending supply of refreshments.
Hopefully the wonderful local effort will persuade grant funders to match it.

ULLAPOOL POST OFFICE – UPDATE
The following has been received from Topher Dawson, Chair of Lochbroom Community Council:
I have received a phone call from Mark X Gibson, the Post Office spokesman who attended our CC meeting last month. He was able to tell me that as a result of negotiations, Tesco will be submitting a formal bid to run a PO branch in the Ullapool store.
Mark assures me that this bid will be accepted by the PO. He tells me that Tesco will be doing quite a lot of shopfitting work in the store to make this happen, so they do not think it will be open until September.

Weather for Tuesday 30th April – Monday 6th May
Max temp 21.4C = 71F min temp 8.2C = 47F
Another dry week. The only rain was on Sunday and Monday and between both days it didn’t amount to 1mm. It started mild enough and improved reaching the max on Saturday before falling away again and only just maintaining double figures by Monday.
It was breezy at times especial on Friday. There were some fine sunny days particularly early in the week up till Friday. Sunday and Monday gave us more overcast conditions.
The stats are out for April. Data from the Met Office for the North of Scotland.
Mean temp -0.1C, rain fall +33% and sunshine -20%.
The mean temp was the lowest of the regions of the UK so not good, having said that many other areas were at 0%. On the other hand the rainfall anomaly was the lowest, so some silver linings!
