On Saturday, July 12, all eyes will be on Pictou Harbour as the Ship Hector replica is relaunched in a milestone moment for the ongoing restoration of this iconic vessel. The event celebrates the ship’s
continued transformation into a powerful symbol of Canada’s immigration story and a cornerstone of Nova Scotia’s cultural identity.
Thousands are expected to gather for this dramatic and motional event, featuring cultural ceremonies, live music, and the return of the Ship Hector to the water.

After such an amazing start to the season in May, both the weather and wildlife turned a bit disappointing in June. There were hardly any dolphins (though porpoise were there when weather ok), and the weather has been rougher, which means getting out and spotting has been restricted. Combined with my lack of time skills and planning has meant I’ve not done an update for a wee while, but a few things have been happening in the last couple of weeks.
The Seals and Sea Eagles have once again proved to be the backbone of things, and many find that great. And some visitors from places in Europe that are having heat waves and have been saying that even just coming up here and getting cold weather has been part of the delight of the Highlands.
