“Ulla” at the Skiffieworlds 2025
Stranraer proved to be the ideal venue for this event, – the largest gathering of St Ayles coastal rowing boats in history.
“Safe water (Loch Ryan) with a whole range of weather , good accommodation, traffic free shore promenade and beach and lots of parking…. Plenty of space for competitors to rig boats, and get access to the water and fantastic local hospitality”
World champion title successfully retained by Northern Ireland’s Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club.

LOCAL WEATHER
Weather for Tuesday 8th July – Monday 14th July
Max temp 30.1C = 88F Min temp 10.2C = 50F
What a week! We had a little rain to start, but not much. It was also a bit overcast, but not for long. On Tuesday we got to 18.6C. Every day thereafter was above 20C with Friday, Saturday and Sunday qualifying us for heatwave status. For our part of the world, it’s 3 consecutive days above 25C and they came in at 25.3C, 29.9C and 30.1C. It was sticky overnight as well with Friday not falling below 16.1C.
The previous temperature record for my station which has been going for 11 years is 30.4C which was on 7th September 2023.
It was breezy, especially on Monday. By Monday evening the rain had started to return.

Local success at Wimbledon Centre Court!
This year, major Wimbledon sponsors Lavazza, enjoyed our finest Wester Ross artisan Scottish salmon on the prestigious menu curated for their private hospitality. As the world’s finest tennis players battled for glory, Michelin-starred chef and Wester Ross Brand Ambassador, Shaun Rankin, crafted an equally elevated culinary experience for Lavazza’s distinguished guests; personally smoked to perfection by Shaun himself and bringing a taste of the West Highlands to Wimbledon. “It was a proud moment for all of us at Wester Ross,” said a company spokesperson.
