CONGRATULATIONS TO COIGACH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMPANY! FINALIST IN NATIONAL HELPING IT HAPPEN RURAL AWARDS
Over 30 outstanding organisations, businesses and individuals transforming rural Scotland revealed as contenders for prestigious national awards
A pioneering community organisation from the north-west Highlands has been shortlisted in the Helping It Happen Awards 2025, which celebrate inspirational people, projects and businesses transforming rural Scotland.
The awards – organised by Scottish Land & Estates and sponsored by NatureScot – highlight the individuals and organisations making a real difference to life in the countryside.
Coigach Community Development, founded in 2010, is a finalist in the Working With Communities Award. Established in response to a housing crisis, the organisation has supported the local community through projects, grants and land ownership. Among its most notable achievements is fundraising for a wind turbine, which now provides a stable income stream to fund local initiatives and strengthen resilience in Coigach for the long term.
The winners of all 11 award categories will be announced at a special ceremony on Wednesday 1 October at The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh.

A Home Energy Advice Team based in Ullapool
Following the Highland Energy Community Partnership launch in April , Lochbroom and Ullapool Community Trust is excited to announce the new team is in place – Matthew Holmes and Sue Agnew. Offering free unbiased and confidential advice in the best ways to heat our homes and overcome the particular challenges in our area with specific types of properties and the typical fuel types available.

Next stop, Inverness Victorian Market as public invited to get on board model railway experience.
With over a year in the planning and many volunteer hours already undertaken, work is starting on the installation of a new model railway in the Food Hall at Inverness Victorian Market.
Depute Provosts of Inverness and Area, Cllr Jackie Hendry and Cllr Morven Reid met recently with the Railway Delivery Group today who are working on the highly detailed, meticulously designed to scale railway, which will herald the future return of a model railway service in the Victorian Market.
