From Jill’s Letter – Labour Saving Ideas and Hints for the Home written in 1924
For example:
Escaped Parrot. Never chase or frighten a parrot. Get a walking stick and hold it before his feet. He will soon hop on; then gently lift the stick to cage door and in polly goes, thus saving time and labour.
When corset steels work out of the casing, instead of sewing the end again , pull the steels out several inches, smear them with seccotine*, then replace them and press casing firmly. There will be no more trouble with the steels.
*(seccotine – liquid fish glue patented in 1894)

An Talla Solais Art Week starts today with the opening of the Members Show in the gallery, with music, cocktails and canapés!

Angling Competition last Saturday was a huge success with 33 boats and 47 anglers registered.
Junior anglers winner with 9 fish and 3 runners up with 8 each.
Men’s Heaviest fish – a pollock at 10lbs 1oz. Women’s heaviest also a pollock at 5lb 6oz. Most mackerel – Challenger; Most species – Bon Ami. Best dressed boat – MFV Olivia from Kinlochbervie.

Elphin Crofty Day on Saturday 13th September from 12 -4
Stalls, Demonstrations, Activities and Games for all ages . Things to eat and buy and animals to look at and enjoy.
