Extracts from Jill’s letter, our regular correspondent from Scoraig
The Adventures of a Housebound Crone.
So many things happening this week, I don’t know where to start! Dramas of wind, rain, thunder and lightening. Snow. Rainbows and sunshine. A crippledwindmill looking so forlorn. One of its blades shaggly and dangling. So an orgy of wood shavings for the Man as he carves a new blade. Tomorrow, he will discover if we need a new bearing. Luckily we have had enough power from the sun to supply our needs for electricity.
I make cups of tea and invent new ways of using up leftovers. ….
….. I have been mightily influenced by Rutger Bregman’s book Humankind which demonstrates that most people are actually kind. I want everyone to read it as I do believe that we are creating our world. It is in our hands the story we tell each other. Watching the recent series,’The Other Bennet Sister,’ I was pleased to see Mary chatting to the despised Mr Collins in the library. He shares with her that he has just read in Aristotle (written some three hundred BCE) that whether we are happy or not depends on ourselves…..,

The Whale was named “Roy “ after Roy MacGregor.

The Wester Ross MPA page is meant for sharing news about the MPA area that extends form the village out to the back of the Summer Isles and takes in Little Loch Broom and Loch Ewe too. Hoping to share what it is, what’s happening in it, and look at what has worked and perhaps what hasn’t too, and see if there’s things that can help to make the seas even better and hopefully help fishing too.
We also used the page to promote the humpback whale naming competition. Lyndsay from the Scottish ID catalogue agreed to let us name the whale that was in over Christmas, and also Happy Whale, an international organisation that records and tracks humpbacks worldwide.
