THANK YOU FROM AM FUARAN BAR
On the 10th April 2026 we had a celebration marking 50 years since the opening of Am Fuaran Bar.
We would like to thank friends and family who came from near and far to celebrate this special occasion, itwas lovely to see so many there. Thank you to Alison Urquhart and James Heaney for piping the guests in and Alison for providing pipe music throughout the night. Thank you also to the Bottle Island ceilidh band whose members are Davy (west)Macleod who I may add made an amazing speech, Roland and Alan, they were accompanied by Helen and Haness who are all great musicians and provided a wonderful Highland ceilidh.
Thank you to Jo Munro (Ullapool) who helped with the catering and all who helped on the night. Lastly Thank you Linda for the gift of the chalets for accommodation, and those who gave cards, flowers, gifts and beautiful Art work it was all very much appreciated.

A bit of history: Ullapool Youth Hostel opened at its current location at 22 Shore Street, 75 years ago.
Before that it was located in …….. the Ullapool News office!
Many thanks to Chrissy Boyd for that fascinating bit of history! She reckons the date of the photograph (see below) would be post WW2 and pre 1951 because it was difficult to cross the “Highland Line”.
‘During the Second World War, the Highland Line – specifically the northern region of Scotland beyond the Beauly barrier – became a strictly Protected Area in 1940 and 1941, requiring a special permit for access. This “Highland lockdown” was implemented for national security, as the region was strategically vital for naval operations and commando training.’ By 1951, the Youth Hostel at 22 Shore Street had opened.

Real to Reel – Season of ‘Different Genre’ films ‘Man On Wire’ (2008, Cert 12)
‘Man on Wire’ is a 2008 documentary film directed by James Marsh. The film chronicles Philippe Petit’s 1974 high wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Centre. Winner of many awards including the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. This is a sensational, victimless, crime of trespassing on the World Trade Centre requiring enormous cunning, discipline and courage. Be prepared to bring your head for heights, as this documentary builds tension to a dizzying climax.
Ullapool Ferry Terminal Sunday 3 May 7.30pm entry by donation.
